2010 Cabernet Sauvignon

We are pleased to offer the inaugural release of the Stone The Crows Cabernet Sauvignon: 232 cases of the 2010 vintage were bottled, from fruit produced entirely from the Three Twins Vineyard, our family ranch. 2010 Stone the Crows Cabernet Sauvignon Three Twins Vineyard - Click on this picture to view an enlargement of the label The 2010 vintage is a blend of two clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, 337 and 169, as well as 5% Petit Verdot, 14.8% alcohol, and aged 20 months in 75% new Ermitage and Darjanou French oak barrels. In addition to the 750 ml format, we are offering 60, 1.5 liter magnums, in wood presentation boxes. The 750 ml bottles are available individually or as boxed three packs.

While 35 cases of the 2009 vintage were produced, none was offered to the public. We felt the vineyard was still young and the vines would do well with another year of maturity. We believe that the quality of the 2010 validates this decision.

From its inception in 2005, the Three Twins Vineyard has been a remarkable adventure for our family. The morning fog that shrouds the rows of vines is burned off by the afternoon sun glistening off Lake Hennessey, providing not only optimal growing conditions, but a continually amazing sensory experience as well. Somehow, Thomas Brown has been able to capture this environment and seal it in the bottle. We hope you enjoy the 2010 vintage as much as we have enjoyed producing it.

Winemaker Notes

Of the 20 or so Cabernets I fermented at Black Sears in 2010, this is arguably the best.

Opening with notes of crushed blackberries, charcoal and white flowers, the aromatic attack doesn't wait for you to pour the wine; it begins as soon as you pull the cork. Highly perfumed and expressive, it captures all the greatness of this little stretch of Greenfield Road in Conn Valley. The 600 foot elevation and 15 degree slope peek through in the form of mid-palate grip but the tannin is so polished it doesn't stick out. Black and purple fruits come pouring through framed by sweet tobacco, cassis and blackcurrants. The seamlessness of the entire experience is what sets the wine apart.

We are excited to be making wine in this emerging neighborhood. If this is what the second vintage tastes like, the future holds many more great wines.
